Axis of the Storm –

My working experience in two related fields, working with disabled students in higher education and psychoanalysis (Lacanian orientation), prompts me to pay particular attention to issues in teaching and learning. Specifically, to the challenge of cultivating the conditions necessary for real learning/discovery.

My direction is towards proper simplification, wherever possible.

My hunch is that we currently overwork without commensurate reward and that this is due to not knowing where to begin. We do as best we can with unsound premises which do not make for sound decision making. This is enhanced in its momentum by the saturation of our awareness with rhetoric at the expense of ethical rigour. In short, a great deal of effort drowns in confusion.

My experience tells me that although problems are by their very nature convoluted, the solutions to them are often very simple. To find that simplicity we need to approach problems with an open mind, ie, without the prejudicial constraints arising from conformity with the opinions of others.

A note on simplicity: simplicity does not mean that we can avoid the dedication of labour and attention detail necessary to bring about what simplicity identifies as necessary.

A note on avoidance: avoidance is deceptive as alluring things tend to be. It requires an even greater dedication of labour, attention to detail to comply with what confusion commands as unavoidable.
